Who is Dr. Ian?
I was raised here in the Lehigh Valley. My family lived in Coopersburg. I graduated from Southern Lehigh High School in 1986. Then I was off to Hesston College in Hesston Kansas to become a pilot and later an avionics technician. I graduated from Hesston College in 1989 and went to work for an instrument repair facility, the shop where I completed my co-operative education. I worked autopilot systems for another small avionic shop and later for Raytheon Aircraft. It was during that time I met my future wife Trish.
So why did I became a Doctor of Chiropractic?
I first discovered chiropractic when I was about 20 years old. My head met the concrete after diving off the stage of a Megadeth concert. The next day I woke with a headache that wouldn’t go away with pain relievers. I rarely had headaches especially ones that didn’t go away. About a week later a coworker suggested I see his chiropractor. I didn’t really even know what a chiropractor could do to help me. But I went. The doctor adjusted my neck over the next week and I could not believe how quickly I felt better.
About 3 years later, I began having constant knee pain every time I went a few miles cycling. I spent a lot of time and money upgrading the bike, but nothing helped.
My fiancé suggested I go see her chiropractor. As it turned out my hip and back were the problem. Once that was adjusted, and he adjusted my knee, I felt great and once again was able to enjoy cycling without any pain. I started to think, hey, I could do this. My wife said she agreed so I talked to the doctor and he was kind enough to let me shadow him for a day.
That was it, with my wife’s support, I returned to Wichita State University where I took the prerequisites required for chiropractic college. I then enrolled at Cleveland Chiropractic College of Kansas City. In 2002, Four years and one son later, I graduated.
Finally my wife, son and I moved here to PA. We added a little girl to the family and at last in 2008 we purchased this office from Dr. Merchant.
